Working as a butcher means working with sharp knives and heavy carcasses, often on floors where animal fat and blood can affect grip. Our slip-resistant butcher shoes are built for that combination, with independently tested outsoles, toe protection for heavy cuts, waterproof options and easy-clean materials across trainers, safety shoes and wellington boots.
Butcher Shoes and Safety Footwear for Meat Processing
Butchers floors can be particularly challenging underfoot. And with so many sharp implements around, you need to keep your feet under you.
Every pair in this collection runs on independently tested slip-resistant outsoles. Select styles feature the Gladiator outsole, a more abrasion-resistant rubber compound built for heavy-duty environments including meat processing. Most styles offer composite toe protection certified to EN ISO 20345, the European standard for safety footwear, with several also including puncture-resistant midsoles for added underfoot protection.
For wash-down areas, waterproof wellington boots with steel toe caps and clog-resistant outsoles are available. Where a lighter shoe suits the work better, trainers and lace-ups with waterproof or water-resistant uppers cover the rest of the range. White footwear options are available for environments where colour-coding or hygiene policies require them, and easy-clean materials feature across most styles.

Do I need safety toe protection for working in a butchers?
For most butcher roles, yes. Handling whole carcasses, primals and heavy cuts creates a consistent impact risk, and many employers specify EN ISO 20345-certified footwear as part of their PPE requirements. The majority of styles in this collection carry composite toe protection rated to that standard. If your role is limited to counter service or retail meat preparation where heavy lifting is less frequent, occupational footwear certified to EN ISO 20347 may be sufficient. Check your employer's risk assessment if you're unsure.
When should I choose wellington boots over lace-up safety shoes?
Wellington boots suit wash-down environments where floors are regularly hosed, or roles where your feet are exposed to standing water and offcuts for extended periods. Our Guardian range offers waterproof construction with steel toe caps and clog-resistant outsoles. For drier cutting room environments, lace-up safety shoes or trainers with waterproof uppers offer the same level of toe protection with less bulk and more flexibility through a shift.
What is the Gladiator outsole and why does it suit meat processing?
The Gladiator outsole uses a more abrasion-resistant rubber compound than the standard slip-resistant outsole. It's built for heavy-duty environments including meat processing, where the floor takes heavier wear than most kitchen or food service settings. It's available on select styles in this range. Look for styles listing the Gladiator outsole in their product details.
Are white footwear options available for food hygiene requirements?
Yes. The range includes white wellington boots, white trainers and white safety shoes for environments where colour-coding or hygiene protocols require white footwear. All white options run on the same independently tested slip-resistant outsoles as the rest of the range.
What's the difference between composite toe caps and steel toe caps in this range?
Composite toe caps are lighter, don't conduct cold and won't trigger metal detectors, which matters if you work across sites with security screening. Steel toe caps are found in our wellington boot range and are well suited to wash-down environments where the boot's overall construction matches the heavier build. Both protect against impacts to EN ISO 20345 standards and provide similar levels of protection.
